HOW THIS TEST WORKS

How How Creative Am I? works

How version core-v1 is scored, and what it can and cannot tell you.

How it is scored

Creativity means making something new and useful for you or for others. Researchers distinguish everyday creativity, called little-c, from major breakthroughs (Kaufman and Beghetto, 2009). Studies find that creativity is helped by curiosity (Silvia, 2008), by thinking up many different ideas (Guilford, 1967), and by settings that give people time, freedom, and a feeling of safety to experiment (Amabile, 1996).

This test looks at five areas: curiosity, coming up with ideas, playing with risk and mess, making and finishing, and making room for it. Each area has eight sentences. Four describe a creative habit and four describe the opposite. Each answer gives 0 to 4 points. Each area score runs from 0 to 100, and your overall score is the average of the five.

PersonalitySite.com wrote all of these questions and descriptions. They are not copied from any other test.

What it cannot tell you

This test is for learning about yourself. It is not a diagnosis, and it is not a measure of talent, intelligence, or artistic skill. It cannot predict whether you will produce good art or ideas. Do not use it to hire, judge, rank, or label people.

A lower score does not mean you are not creative. Time, space, support, and mood all affect creative habits. Ideas about what counts as creative also differ across cultures.

This version has not yet been tested with a large group of people, so we do not yet know how accurate it is.
