HOW THIS TEST WORKS

How How Is My Manager Doing? (Your View) works

How version core-v1 is scored, and what it can and cannot tell you.

How it is scored

This test asks how your manager is doing, in your view. It uses the same five areas as our How Am I Doing as a Manager? self-check: setting clear direction, helping you grow, caring about you, being fair, and listening to you. Research on leaders finds that clear direction and care for people both matter a lot (Judge and others, 2004), that fair treatment builds trust (Colquitt and others, 2001), that support from a manager is linked with people staying (Eisenberger and others, 2002), and that managers who believe people can grow coach more (Heslin and others, 2006).

Each area has eight sentences. Half describe a strong habit and half describe the opposite, so you cannot get a high score just by agreeing with everything. Each answer gives 0 to 4 points. Each area score runs from 0 to 100, and a higher score means a stronger habit, in your view. Your overall score is the average of the five areas.

PersonalitySite.com wrote all of these questions and descriptions. They are not copied from any other test.

What it cannot tell you

This test is based only on your view of your manager, and it is private to you. It is not a performance rating. Do not use it to rate, rank, discipline, or judge any manager, or as evidence in a complaint. Keep your own dated record of events instead.

People on the same team often see the same manager differently. Your manager's habits also depend on their workload, training, and support from above.

This version has not yet been tested with a large group of people, so we do not yet know how accurate it is.
