HOW THIS TEST WORKS
How How Well Do I Read People? works
How version core-v1 is scored, and what it can and cannot tell you.
How it is scored
Reading people means noticing and understanding what others feel and mean. Research finds that people who read others accurately tend to have better relationships and get along better (Hall and others, 2009), that people are only modestly accurate at reading others, even when close (Ickes, 1993), and that people tend to think they are better at it than they are (Ames and Kammrath, 2004).
This test looks at five areas: noticing feelings, reading tone and body language, hearing what is not said, checking your guesses, and adjusting to the person. Each area has eight sentences. Four describe a strong habit and four describe the opposite. Each answer gives 0 to 4 points. Each area score runs from 0 to 100, and your overall score is the average of the five.
Because this is a self-report, it measures how you see your habits, not how accurate you really are.

What it cannot tell you
This test is for learning about yourself. It is not a diagnosis. It cannot tell you if you are autistic or have any other condition, and it does not test how accurate you really are at reading people. Do not use it to hire, fire, or judge people.
People often rate themselves higher at this than they really are. Signals also differ across cultures and people. A lower score does not mean something is wrong with you.
This version has not yet been tested with a large group of people, so we do not yet know how accurate it is.
