HOW THIS TEST WORKS
How Do I Have Low Self-Esteem? works
How version core-v1 is scored, and what it can and cannot tell you.
How it is scored
Self-esteem means how you feel about your own worth. It is one of the most studied ideas in psychology (Rosenberg, 1965). Research shows that self-esteem can change over life (Orth and Robins, 2014), that worth tied to approval or success tends to bring more stress (Crocker and Wolfe, 2001), and that being kind to yourself helps (Neff, 2003).
This test looks at five areas: feeling good enough, kind self-talk, trusting yourself, worth from within, and treating yourself well. Each area has eight sentences. Half describe healthy self-esteem and half describe the opposite, so you cannot get a high score just by agreeing with everything. Each answer gives 0 to 4 points.
Each area score runs from 0 to 100, and a higher score means healthier self-esteem. Your overall score is the average of the five areas. Scores are read as Low (0 to 33), Medium (34 to 66), or High (67 to 100). These levels show how you answered. They do not compare you with other people.

What it cannot tell you
This test is for learning about yourself. It is not a diagnosis. It cannot tell you if you have depression, anxiety, or any other condition. Do not use it to make health, work, or school decisions about anyone.
How you feel about yourself can change a lot with your mood and what is going on in your life. If you are going through a hard time, your scores may be lower than usual.
This version has not yet been tested with a large group of people, so we do not yet know how accurate it is.
