HOW THIS TEST WORKS
How Am I a Servant Leader? works
How version core-v1 is scored, and what it can and cannot tell you.
How it is scored
Servant leadership is the idea that leaders should serve first, putting the growth and well-being of the people they lead ahead of their own success (Greenleaf, 1977). Reviews of research describe its parts, such as empowering others, humility, and stewardship (van Dierendonck, 2011), and link it with more trust, commitment, and helping in teams (Eva and others, 2019). Leaders who admit mistakes also make teams feel safer to speak up (Edmondson, 1999).
This test looks at five areas: listening first, helping people grow, sharing power, humility, and serving something bigger. Each area has eight sentences. Four describe a strong habit and four describe the opposite. Each answer gives 0 to 4 points. Each area score runs from 0 to 100, and your overall score is the average of the five.

What it cannot tell you
This test is for learning about yourself. It is not a diagnosis or a performance rating. Do not use it to hire, fire, promote, rank, or rate people.
Servant leadership is one approach among many, and other styles work well in some settings. Leaders often rate themselves differently than their teams do. A lower score does not mean you are a poor leader.
This version has not yet been tested with a large group of people, so we do not yet know how accurate it is.
