HOW THIS TEST WORKS
How How Strategic Am I? works
How version core-v1 is scored, and what it can and cannot tell you.
How it is scored
Strategic thinking means looking beyond the task at hand to the bigger goal and what is coming. Researchers describe it as seeing the whole system, keeping a clear long-term intent, thinking in time, mixing creative and analytical thinking, and testing ideas as hypotheses (Liedtka, 1998). It grows through experience and deliberate reflection (Goldman, 2007), and people who think in possibilities and update often tend to forecast better (Tetlock and Gardner, 2015).
This test looks at five areas: seeing the big picture, thinking ahead, choosing what matters most, connecting the dots, and testing and adjusting. Each area has eight sentences. Four describe a strong habit and four describe the opposite. Each answer gives 0 to 4 points. Each area score runs from 0 to 100, and your overall score is the average of the five.

What it cannot tell you
This test is for learning about yourself. It is not a diagnosis or a performance rating. Do not use it to hire, fire, promote, rank, or rate people.
How strategic you can be depends on your role and how much time you have. A lower score does not mean you are not capable.
This version has not yet been tested with a large group of people, so we do not yet know how accurate it is.
