HOW THIS TEST WORKS

How Am I a Team Player? works

How version core-v1 is scored, and what it can and cannot tell you.

How it is scored

Teamwork means working with others toward a shared goal. Research on teams finds that good teamwork includes communicating, backing each other up, adapting, and having clear goals and roles (Salas and others, 2005; Hackman, 2002). Teams where people feel safe to speak up and admit mistakes learn more (Edmondson, 1999), and conflict about people hurts team results, while conflict about the task helps only in some conditions (De Dreu and Weingart, 2003).

This test looks at five areas: doing your part, sharing information, helping and sharing credit, handling disagreement, and being open to others. Each area has eight sentences. Four describe a healthy habit and four describe the opposite. Each answer gives 0 to 4 points. Each area score runs from 0 to 100, and your overall score is the average of the five.

What it cannot tell you

This test is for learning about yourself. It is not a diagnosis. Do not use it to hire, fire, promote, rank, or label people, and do not use it to judge anyone in a work review.

How you act in a team depends on the team. You may be a great teammate in one group and a poor one in another. A lower score does not mean you are a bad teammate. Some people do their best work alone.

This version has not yet been tested with a large group of people, so we do not yet know how accurate it is.
